Daniel Farke opted for a diplomatic tone regarding potential interest in Jordan Rhodes but the Norwich City boss is adamant there will be no fireworks in the final days of the transfer window.

Sheffield United confirmed a club record deal for Oli McBurnie earlier on Friday while the other newly-promoted club, Aston Villa, have lavished in excess of £100m already this summer.

City have brought in four senior players, including two loan signings, but Farke is happy with the head count approaching next Thursday's 5pm deadline.

"No I don't think we will sign any players. We will stay awake if there is a different option but I am totally happy with the number of bodies," he said, speaking on Friday afternoon. "We don't need any more with the size of our group. Of course a really top quality player would help us but if we are really honest a player with real quality starts with several million pounds. We can't do this.

"I only want a player to come in who brings us to another level but these players start with £10m tags. We can't do that size of transfer. So if not it makes no sense just to bring in a body. I don't expect any business but in this crazy market you never know.

"Generally, I made it clear I like Jordan Rhodes. He was a quite important player for us even though he didn't play each and every minute.

"He is a top class player with a top class attitude but I respect the contract situation. He is a player of Sheffield Wednesday. I wouldn't expect someone from Sheffield Wednesday to speak about our players and so I won't comment on this.

"You know we like Jordan and we were thankful he could help us but he is under contract. It is not my job to speak about this topic."

Farke insists City can still bridge the gap to bigger spending rivals.

"We have to be realistic. The teams already in the Premier League have better opportunities in financial terms than us. They are prepared because they are used to play on this level," he said. "Not just the top six but more or less the other clubs.

"Now when you see the money the clubs who were promoted with us can spend to bring in individual quality, look at Villa, they have spent nearly £140m and Sheffield have made some decent transfers.

"You have to say, with our opportunities financially, if you are realistic then we are the favourite to finish in position 20 in the Premier League.

"We are not naïve. When you are able to spend money to bring in quality you have a bigger guarantee to be successful.

"But we know our situation and we handle this. We have to work with our tools and our strengths.
