Ben Godfrey admits he has his eye on breaking into the England senior set-up as he strives to establish himself in the Premier League with Norwich City.

The youngster's performances at the heart of the Canaries' Championship title winning defence has already seen him brought into the England fold at Under-20 level.

But if Godfrey can show he can handle the Premier League jump next season then the 21-year-old could catch the eye of England boss Gareth Southgate.

Godfrey acknowledges that first he must keep his place in Daniel Farke's first XI.

When asked about potentially breaking into the England squad, Godfrey said: "Of course that's something I've got my eye on but it's one step at a time.

"I just need to do my job in the team and if that opportunity comes up then I'd be overwhelmed with it.

"Of course I've got my eye on that, every young boy has."

MORE: 'I proved the critics wrong'Godfrey has been a revelation in the second half of the season with City, establishing a centre half partnership with Christoph Zimmermann that kept the more established figures of Grant Hanley and Timm Klose on the bench.

He is on the radar of several Premier League giants with both Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly monitoring his development.

United, in particular, are desperate for defensive reinforcements but Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber has emphasised City's promotion means they are no longer under any pressure to sell and balance the books.

It means that City supporters can be fairly confident of seeing Godfrey in City colours next season with the player under contract at Carrow Road until 2022 having signed an extension last summer.

But it appears the sky is the limit for Godfrey, who can't wait to test himself against the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane next season.

"Playing against some of the best players in the world and seeing how we, and myself, can handle that is exciting," he said. "I'm looking forward to it and what I can learn and see how that can kick me on to the next level and seeing where I can go from there."
