Former Norwich City loan striker Jordan Rhodes is in Wigan’s sights while his one-time ex-Canaries’ team mate Ben Marshall has held talks with League One Rotherham United.
Rhodes was a hugely popular figure at Carrow Road during last season's Championship title triumph scoring nine goals in 40 appearances, the majority of which came as a back up to Teemu Pukki.
City were unable to thrash out a permanent deal for the Sheffield Wednesday striker who has largely been on the fringes of the Owls' promotion push this time around.
The Sheffield Star report on Thursday Wigan tabled a 'derisory loan fee and only offered to pay a small proportion of Rhodes' salary' which was rejected by the Yorkshire outfit.
Rhodes did notch a hat-trick at Nottingham Forest in December but has been an unused substitute in recent games for Garry Monk.
But with the Owls' chief reportedly keen to bring in fresh attacking talent, Rhodes' future this month could still lie away from Hillsborough.
Meanwhile, City fan and Millers' boss, Paul Warne, is ruling out a January move for Marshall.
The former Blackburn and Wolves wide player endured an unhappy one year stint at Carrow Road after falling out of favour under Daniel Farke. The 28-year-old has been without a club since his Norwich contract was cancelled by mutual consent in July 2019.
Warne did confirm talks but that is as far as his interest will go.
"I don't foresee it happening," he said, quoted in the Yorkshire Post. "I had contact, and went and met with him and his agent. We thought he was going to come in but at this moment in time it is not something he wants to do.
"So, that won't be revisited anytime soon.
"With new signings it usually takes about 10 games for them to really get it. So, if I have got a fully fit squad then there is no point bringing in extra players. And if I can't get the best out of them until March or April, then it is pointless.
"We have still got a bit of time, if there is an issue then there are a couple of players on my radar. But at the moment I am pretty happy."
