Norwich City need to be nastier if they are to succeed in the Premier League, believes experienced goalkeeper Tim Krul.

The fit-again Canaries number one was pleased to see more aggression in defence during a calming 0-0 draw at Bournemouth, which earned a first clean sheet and a first away point of the season.

Jamal Lewis, Kenny McLean and Teemu Pukki all earned yellow cards but Krul, who has over 150 Premier League games on his CV, had no problem with that.

"There were some really good professional yellow cards, we've been missing that," he said. "Pukki in midfield, Emi (Buendia), Jamal and I've been saying 'boys, if you don't do it then everyone has to run 80 yards back' and they've scored a goal out of that a few times.

"We need to be nasty, there's still a lot of lessons to be learned and that's one of them. I saw (Moritz) Leitner going into tackles, winning headers and that's what we're going to need. We need 11 boys fighting for each other. Look at Tom Trybull coming on and getting one in the face, he's got a bit of a migraine now but that's what you've got to do."

That added competitive streak was needed on the south coast, as Ben Godfrey limped off five minutes into the second half, requiring Alex Tettey to drop to centre-back alongside fellow defensive midfielder Ibrahim Amadou, with the duo working hard to preserve that clean sheet.

"I was talking to Ibrahim afterwards and he was like 'oh my head' because you have to be concentrated for 98 minutes," Krul continued.

"Even Ben Godfrey knows that every second the ball can get turned in behind and you have to be ready.

"So really happy with the boys, there were performances from a lot of people there."

The draw at Bournemouth was heartily celebrated by the City fans at full-time, as their team - bolstered by a host of fit-again players - showed backbone to bounce back from a 5-1 home defeat to Aston Villa.

"It's going to take 10, 12, 14 games for people to realise that this is a league which is unforgiving," the Dutchman added. "We've had those opening eight games and now we have to stop giving those silly balls away.

"We grew into the game, confidence grew by the minute."
