Norwich City legend Wes Hoolahan rolled back the years with an excellent goal and an influential display as Cambridge United romped to a 5-0 win at Morecambe.

The 38-year-old former Republic of Ireland international has joined the U’s on a one-year deal following a stint in Australia with Newcastle Jets.

Making just his third appearance for Cambridge the playmaker blasted the visitors in front from the edge of the area in the 29th minute on Saturday.

The Irishman also teed up Paul Mullin for the shot which made it 2-0 five minutes later, hitting the post and going in off the home goalkeeper, then delivered the corner early in the second half from which Mullin made it 4-0 after the ball had been headed down.

Hoolahan scored 54 goals in 352 appearances for Norwich between 2008 and 2018. He still lives in Norfolk, making Cambridge an ideal club for him to continue his playing days, with United top of League Two having won their opener 3-0 at home to Carlisle.
