Group Football Editor Paddy Davitt has posted his marks following the Canaries’ League Cup loss at Luton Town.

Here is Paddy’s verdict on Daniel Farke’s men, who came up short at both ends of the pitch in a self-inflicted cup exit at Kenilworth Road.

• Daniel Barden

Big day and in truth the teenage debutant had an easy ride from Luton but let down by his experienced team mates late on. Must surely give him a taste for more, 6

• Bali Mumba

One of the few to press his claims. Composed on the ball, aggressive in his tackling and added an attacking dimension. Brought a flying tip over from James Shea in the first half. Although the referee bizarrely awarded a goal kick. 8

• Christoph Zimmermann

Poor attempted clearance slammed home by James Collins for the second goal barely two minutes after City had got back on level terms. 6

• Timm Klose

Neat and tidy on the ball. But another in a long line of injury scares saw him depart in the second half. We await the outcome of medical tests. 6

• Sam McCallum

Little seen of his attacking instincts. Caught out down his flank for Luton’s second goal. Attracted to the ball for the third to leave Collins with a simple slot for his hat-trick. 6

• Alex Tettey

Denied by a smart Shea stop. Re-deployed to centre back and positionally exposed for the third goal. 6

• Lukas Rupp

Had a few sighters that lacked conviction. One counter-attacking burst freed Josh Martin. 6

• Kieran Dowell

Looks far more comfortable operating centrally, but needs must in this particular game down the right. Fine, instinctive first time finish drew City level. Briefly. 7

• Marco Stiepermann

On the margins throughout. Bar one turn and shot gathered by Shea. No real sign of a developing link up with Jordan Hugill. But was one of City’s better pre-season operators and will hope to resume his double act with Teemu Pukki at Huddersfield. 6

• Josh Martin

Tried to offer that spark against a well-drilled Hatters’ backline. Best chance was his dart into the box and low shot saved by Shea. 7

• Jordan Hugill

Total absence of any service, let alone the service he thrives on in the penalty box. Took matters into his own hands with a couple of speculative efforts. Will not have turned up the heat on Pukki for next week. 6

City substitutes

• Mario Vrancic (for Klose, 59)

Daniel Farke said afterwards he does not view Vrancic as a holding midfield option, but was pressed into service with Tettey’s switch. This was further evidence for the prosecution. Lost the flight of a looping cross and then rashly upended Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu to concede a penalty. Slow to try and cut out the cross for the second Luton goal as well. 5

• Onel Hernandez (for Martin, 72) n/a

• Melvin Sitti (for McCallum, 86) n/a
