Norwich City number one Tim Krul admits he’s concerned by the defensive injuries piling up in front of him, after a ‘horrible’ run of luck.

Timm Klose's season had already been ruined by serious knee ligament damage ahead of Saturday's 2-0 loss at West Ham, with Grant Hanley also missing the game with a groin strain, which has prevented him joining up with Scotland.

Fellow centre-back Christoph Zimmermann was thrust into Premier League battle despite just 55 minutes of football since summer knee surgery and suffered foot ligament damage in a bad tackle just 20 minutes into the game at the London Stadium - with City yet to put a time-frame on the German's injury, as they continue to assess the damage.

"We need this break because it's sad to see Grant (Hanley) is injured, Timm Klose got a horrible injury, so it's been a horrible week for that," Krul said. "Then Zimbo coming back and getting a horrible tackle on his ankle. It's not great because those are top defenders that I want to see in front of me.

"I'm pleased that we have signed Ibrahim (Amadou) because he is a top player as well. So we've got a talented squad but you don't want too many changes like this too often."

Krul knows all about injury woes, after a serious knee injury suffered while on international duty with Holland in 2015 threatened to bring an end to his top-level career. However, the 31-year-old has rebuilt his career with Norwich and made his 50th appearance for the club on Saturday, all of which have been consecutive league starts.

"I'm really proud of it," he said of that landmark. "There were a lot of doubts after my injury, people that said I couldn't play more than 10 games anymore because I wasn't fit.

"To play 50 games in a row, personally I'm really happy and especially to do it for a club like Norwich, for sure."

After leaving Newcastle, Krul provided cover at Brighton when the Seagulls survived as a newly-promoted Premier League side during 2017-18.

He added: "At Brighton it took us at least 10 games to get the hang of it. These four games gave us a lot to learn from and I think the boys can go away on the international break and think they know what we have to face in the next few months."
