Oliver Skipp is relishing a step into the unknown ahead of his Championship bow, after swapping Tottenham for a season long stint at Norwich City.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder was singled out by Daniel Farke for praise after his display in the midweek 2-0 friendly win against Dynamo Dresden.

City wrap up their German tour with a doubler header against SV Darmstadt on Saturday, and the teenager feels they are on track.

“It gives us confidence and a sense we are building something. We know it might not be the level of the Championship, but it is a positive to have kept three clean sheets in a row,” said Skipp. “The boss has really drilled that into us we have to be solid collectively.

“It is something we are looking to achieve as a group. To press at the right time and press higher.

“You can tell he is really detailed and he has a clear idea of what he wants from every player.

“There are no blurred lines. You know what he wants and it is up to you to go and deliver. The Championship will be really competitive. Like always. But it is an opportunity to show what I can do.”

Skipp will miss next weekend’s League Cup tie at Luton after his England Under-21s call up for upcoming qualifiers alongside new club mates Ben Godfrey, Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell.

“It is an honour to represent your country,” he said. “It shows the quality Norwich have that three are going away and me as well.

“It shows what the philosophy of the club is all about and many of those lads spent time in the academy.

“That can only be a positive for the club.”

Skipp featured in 12 top flight games for Spurs last season, and Farke believes the midfielder is destined for a bright future at Tottenham.

“We don’t have to speak about his potential. Jose (Mourinho) has said several times he has the potential to be a Tottenham captain,” he said.

“That says it all but he has not played many minutes in the Premier League.

“Now he faces a different league and different opponents.

“He has to get used to being away from home for the first time and we will give him the time to develop.

“I felt it was Olly’s best game (against Dresden) so far and he is an intelligent, top class guy and we are pleased to have him.”
