Norwich City youngster Sam McCallum jumped at the chance for a Coventry City reunion after re-joining the Sky Blues on a season long loan.

The Canaries have sanctioned McCallum’s exit in a bid to get regular Championship football this season.

The 20-year-old featured in the League Cup defeat at Luton but is behind Xavi Quintilla in the pecking order and was a key part of Coventry’s League One promotion success.

McCallum was the subject of numerous loan enquiries from Football League clubs but feels a strong connection to his old team.

“I’m buzzing to be back,” he said. “When I found out, I couldn’t wait to get the deal over the line, it was a no-brainer for me as soon as I heard of the interest.

“It’s a lovely club with great supporters and knowing the system being played here helps and settling down won’t be too much of a problem compared to if I had gone somewhere else on loan.

“I can’t wait to wear Sky Blue again and it will probably feel a bit strange because when I said my goodbyes before, I didn’t expect this to happen, but now I’m back and like I said, I’m buzzing to play my part.”

McCallum is up for the fight to earn a regular starting spot with stiff competition down the Coventry left from Brandon Mason and Ryan Giles.

“It’s a healthy competition between us three and there’s no bad blood there,” he said, speaking to the Sky Blues’ official site.

“Off the pitch we’re good mates and then on the pitch we have that competition and we’re pushing each other to improve and develop our games and we’re all relatively young still.

“I learnt a lot since I’ve been gone and I’ve gained a lot of tips on and off the pitch and I’ve been speaking with a few of the players at Norwich they’ve helped me learn things on the pitch that I didn’t know before.

“Last season the main goal was to get promoted into the Championship and we did that.

“Obviously, it wasn’t the way we wanted to, but we got what we deserved at the end of the day.

“I think coming into the Championship this season, it just feels nice and it feels nice to be back at the place where I was given my chance and hopefully we can retain our place in the league and maybe push on and compete towards the top.”
