West Brom have accepted Norwich City's £3.5m bid for Wales international striker RobertEarnshaw.

Norwich City today agreed an 11th-hour deal to bring West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw to Carrow Road for a deal worth a total of £3.5m.

The transfer deadline day U-turn came as a surprise considering the Canaries had originally baulked at West Brom's asking price.

But with the profit from Dean Ashton's record £7.25m transfer fee to West Ham last week burning a hole in their pockets and the need for a goal-scoring replacement, City opted to make a fresh approach for a player who has twice handed in transfer requests to the Baggies but who had been loathe to drop out of the Premiership.

Earnshaw is available for Sunday's East Anglian derby against Ipswich at Portman Road - and Norwich fans will be hoping he can do what Leon McKenzie did a little over two years ago and single-handedly beat the old enemy on his debut.

However, that seemed a remote possibility after Baggies boss Bryan Robson had effectively told City to come up with £3m or stay out of the fight for his want-away striker, who on Monday rejected a move to Southampton.

Robson then challenged Earnshaw to fight for his place in the starting line-up against Charlton last night.

But Earnshaw clearly realised his future was away from The Hawthorns - and the deal was back on when City made a second offer.

Personal terms were agreed with the 24-year-old Welsh international. The deal includes a basic fee of £2.75m, with up to a further £750,000 payable subject to a number of conditional clauses.

The package matches the total fee West Brom paid Cardiff for Earnshaw's services 18 months ago - and they'll also bag 10pc of any sell-on fee.

Earnshaw scored 14 goals in his first season with Albion to finish as their leading scorer after being signed by ex-Canaries boss Gary Megson in the summer of 2004. But he has made only a handful of appearances during the current campaign with Kanu and Nathan Ellington emerging as the first choice partnership.

Robson even gave Earnshaw a DVD of the parts of his game he felt had to be improved upon to become an established top flight player.

Earnshaw was given a rare outing by the Baggies in their recent FA Cup replay at Reading - and that proved to be his final appearance for the club.

Earnshaw was Norwich's third signing of the day, following the loan captures of Zesh Rehman and Jonatan Johansson and the third full transfer of the January transfer window, following the signings of Carl Robinson and Dickson Etuhu earlier in the month.
