Sheffield Wednesday chief Steve Bruce is tipping his old club Norwich City to earn promotion to the Premier League.
Bruce is back in the Championship at the Owls but fancies the chances of Daniel Farke’s Canaries seeing off title rivals Sheffield United, Leeds and West Brom.
The City Hall of Famer knows what it takes to get out of the Championship, after previously guiding Birmingham City and Hull City to the top flight.
“Norwich have come from nowhere and they have put together a really decent side,” he said, speaking on Talksport. “If you look at the top end now, there are a few teams with a right go, but I think out of them all, Norwich have been the one.
“The way they play, and the way they have transformed themselves really, because they were in a bit of transformation, and all of a sudden they have put a very, very decent team together and they look very, very good.”
Phil Parkinson was another to hail Norwich’s ‘Premier League’ quality after his Bolton were hammered 4-0 in a result that fired City back to the top. Farke’s sole focus is on staying there against in-form Bristol City this weekend.
“We have a massive game at Carrow Road and we will stay hungry and look to perform on this level, from the first until the last second,” he said. “That is what we will try and do in the last weeks of the season.
“It is nice to be top but we know there are a few teams who have played less games so we don’t pay too much attention.
“To be there with 63 points is a great statistic after 33 games. We know we are in a brilliant position but for us what happened at Bolton was about a good response after Preston.”
West Brom moved within three points of the Canaries, with a midweek comeback win at QPR, but Farke is not worried about City’s main rivals.
“We don’t need to think about what other teams are doing right now,” he said.
“Maybe in the last weeks you are allowed to think what is this opponent doing, with that result or whatever, because it is becoming more and more crucial.
“For example, the other day Middlesbrough faced Leeds and you don’t know who is in the better position after 42 game days.
“I think it is still a bit too early to speak about pressure in these games but when you get to the crunch time period you need to be there with a big mental strength.”
