Striker Peter Thorne could be in line for a recall to a starting line-up when Norwich City take on Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road on Saturday.

The 33-year-old forward started the last home match against Leicester, but was back on the bench for last week's trip to Sunderland because manager Peter Grant was concerned about whether he would last 90 minutes playing two matches in quick succession after a long lay-off.

But Grant said today that Thorne was “fully fit” for selection for the clash with the Owls.

He said: “He's fit enough to do that. One thing that was a concern last week was that he had been out for so long, but he's fully fit now and he's available for selection.

“He didn't deserve to be left out last week, he knows that, and I would love to have played him.”

With Youssef Safri suspended for one match after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Leicester, Grant will be forced into at least one change and Thorne could return if he switches to a 4-4-2 formation.

But Paul McVeigh and Robert Eagle could also come into his thinking as the Canaries bid to extend their unbeaten home record under their new boss.

Midfield pair Dickson Etuhu and Carl Robinson will also be available, though Etuhu needed an injection in a sore foot last week and Robinson's eye was swollen earlier in the week after he had stitches in a facial cut at Sunderland.

Defender Gary Doherty is a definite non-starter with his ankle injury, while goalkeeper Paul Gallacher will not return to training until next week as he recovers from an ankle injury, with Lee Camp set to deputise for the last time in his loan spell from Derby.

Defender Craig Fleming and forward Ian Henderson both came safely through Tuesday's reserve match at Colchester but are unlikely to figure unless there is a fresh emergency in the next 48 hours.

Grant said: “It was good to see them getting a match under their belts. It's probably too soon for the weekend but if I need them I know they are available.”

Winger Lee Croft was set to train with the youth team players today as he continues his come-back from an ankle injury.
