Ian Russell, Capital Canaries

Has the support of the Canary faithful ever been so important?

The responsibility of fighting for every single available point lies firmly at the door of the players and coaching staff and one of the frustrations for the rest of us is feeling unable to contribute. Kicking and heading every ball from Row U in the Barclay may help to quell my bursts of adrenalin but, hard though I try, it doesn't actually aid us in winning games.

For as long as the chance to escape the drop remains, every one of the players to a man should be fighting as though his life depends on it and City fans simply won't be content unless they do.

I'm sure Gunny is reminding his team in no uncertain terms that they are not to return to the dressing room at ninety minutes unless they've won. Now is not the time for excuses, mistakes or under achieving. Now is the time to stand up and give every ounce of sweat and blood to the cause. We want Norwich City to stay up and this will only happen if the gloves come off, the sleeves are rolled up and we're up for the fight.

Norwich fans have been applauded before for their incredible loyalty and vociferous support; seventeen-thousand plus season ticket renewals for next season is remarkable and mind-blowing. Will Barnsley, Plymouth, Watford and co have the same backing as our lads? No. Can it make a difference? Of course it can.

They used to say that the famous 'Kop' at Anfield used to be worth a goal - almost as though the masses behind the goal were sucking the ball into the opposition net. I'm convinced many of our famous victories at Carrow Road owe much to a similar force from the City faithful and if the yellow and green army can support the lads 100% from start to finish then I reckon we can all truly play our part.

If the attitude and commitment from all is right, then good support will encourage the players and the fight and effort on the pitch will hearten the supporters. This is a team effort and after a couple of recent wins, there's still every chance we can all help to push the club away from trouble.

This weekend marks the third 'Worldwide Supporters' weekend, where various supporters' clubs from around the country and globe will descend upon NR1.

Let us hope this tremendous commitment will inspire the lads onward and upward.

On the Ball City!
