Luke Chadwick and Juan Velasco put themselves in contention for a first team recall after playing in a friendly held behind closed doors at Colney yesterday.

A Norwich City reserve side beat a strong Cambridge United line-up 1-0 thanks to Damon Lathrope's close-range effort in the second half.

Chadwick, who has been out of the first team picture for five months after undergoing surgery on his shoulder, came off after 60 minutes of the game showing no ill-effects, while City's Spanish defender Velasco got 85 minutes of the match under his belt having completed his recovery from a thigh injury.

With the Canaries having to wait until next month for their final reserve fixture of the season - at home to MK Dons - the match gave the two players a chance to get some match practice and hand City boss Glenn Roeder a timely boost as Norwich look to banish any lingering relegation doubts.

And both Chadwick and Velasco will now be hoping to play some part in City's three remaining Coca-Cola Championship matches as the season approaches its final chapter.
