The swift break-up of the Norwich City squad assembled by former boss Glenn Roeder continued on a hectic transfer deadline day as striker Arturo Lupoli and defender Elliott Omozusi had their season-long loan deals cut short.

While manager Bryan Gunn added three new faces to last week's capture of Sheffield United winger David Carney and the weekend arrival of Celtic striker Chris Killen - both on loan - two more of Roeder's summer signings were shown the door following David Bell's sale to Coventry on Friday.

Italian forward Lupoli's exit became the final piece of business conducted on a frenetic day of comings and goings at Carrow Road.

His season-long loan from Fiorentina was terminated early on the agreement of all parties, and he has now joined Championship rivals Sheffield United on loan for the rest of the season.

Rangers midfielder Alan Gow and Fulham's Australian defender Adrian Leijer were yesterday's new loan recruits, with Dartford striker Cody McDonald also joining City for an undisclosed fee after Gunn watched him in action at the weekend.

Leijer's deal was effectively a swap with 20-year-old Omozusi returning to Fulham after failing to feature in the squad of 16 for any of Gunn's three matches in charge.

Gunn's squad is rapidly taking on a very different look from that of his predecessor.

After the departure of John Kennedy, Leroy Lita and Antoine Sibierski at the end of their loan deals, last week's sale of Bell and the termination of Omar Koroma's loan from Portsmouth further thinned out Roeder's recruits before yesterday's double exit.

Omozusi made 24 appearances for City but Gunn said yesterday: "Elliott has not featured in any of my three squads in recent weeks. The opportunity has come for him to go back to Fulham and we wish him well in his future career."

The 21-year-old Lupoli signed for City in July and scored five times in 20 appearances, but started just three first team games after mid-September, and Gunn said he had become unhappy with his lack of first team football.

Said Gunn: "We wish Arturo all the best. He's been frustrated with the lack of chances he has had to start games and we had a chat last week and discussed the options which were suitable for him.

"He's been a hero among City fans, with the goals he has scored for us and when he ran up to them after his goal at Charlton.

"I know he's been frustrated with the lack of chances but after we signed Chris Killen and Alan Gow, he now feels further down the pecking order."

Lupoli began his career at Parma and had previous spells in England with Arsenal and Derby. His current club, Fiorentina, loaned him to Serie B club Treviso before he joined Norwich.

Omozusi's replacement, the 22-year-old Leijer, joined Fulham in August 2007 but has yet to feature in Roy Hodgson's first team.

He began his career with Melbourne Knights before finding success with Melbourne Victory. A permanent fixture for Australia at both under-20 and under-23 levels, he has since been capped at full international level, against Singapore in March last year.

"Adrian is someone who Ian Crook has worked with during Adrian's time with Australia Under-20s," Gunn told City's official website.

"I have seen him playing for Fulham reserves and he will provide us with extra cover. I am delighted to have him on board for the remainder of the season."
