Norwich City have confirmed the dates of their EFL Trophy group stage games, for long midweek trips to Plymouth, Newport and Cheltenham.

The Canaries will send an under-21 team to Devon on Tuesday, September 8, to take on the first team of League One side Plymouth Argyle (7.45pm).

That’s followed by a trip to South Wales on Tuesday, October 6 to take on Newport County (7pm) and then another League Two team on Tuesday, November 10, when the City youngsters take on Cheltenham Town (7.45pm).

Last season David Wright’s development squad didn’t quite make it out of the group stages, after leading at Oxford United through a Shae Hutchinson goal but losing 2-1, as well as being beaten 3-1 at Portsmouth.

They did win the final game 2-1 at Crawley Town, thanks to goals from Louis Lomas and Gassan Ahadme, but it wasn’t enough to make the knockout stages. City are one of 16 category one academies to accept an invite into the competition.
