Norwich duo Robert Earnshaw and Carl Robinson have been named in the Wales squad to play Paraguay in a friendly in Cardiff on March 1.

The Canaries duo are joined by Derby teenager Lewin Nyatanga - who is expected to face Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday - who is set to become Wales' youngest full international after being named in John Toshack's squad yesterday.

The 17-year-old defender is one of seven players who are 22 or under in the squad, while there is also a first call-up for 29-year-old Orient goalkeeper Glynn Garner after his starring role in the League Two club's FA Cup run.

Nyatanga is standing by to make Welsh football history. The current record holder is former Wolves defender Ryan Green, now at Hereford, who was 17 years and 226 days old when he made his full debut against Malta in 1998 under Bobby Gould.

That broke the previous record held by Ryan Giggs, who played his first full international in 1991 against Germany when he was 17 years and 321 days old.

Nyatanga, who has also been the youngest Wales under-21 player and captain, will be 17 years and 195 days old on March 1 for the game at the Millennium Stadium.

Toshack said: “Lewin has broken into the Derby team this season, I have seen him a few times and he is certainly one for the future.

“It's been a bit difficult for him recently with the change of manager at Derby and he has been left out, but we have to give these youngsters a chance.”

Toshack has also named uncapped players Garner and Wrexham's Mark Jones. Four players - David Cotterill, Andrew Crofts, Joe Ledley and Ipswich keeper Lewis Price - have only one cap each.

Garner, Pontypool-born and a former Bury keeper, impressed this season as Orient reached the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Toshack said: “He did very well in their cup run. He saved a penalty against Fulham and was outstanding against Charlton. I have certainly had plenty of good reports about him.”'

With Lewis Price only just back from injury at Ipswich and veteran Paul Jones having recently joined QPR, Wales need to find cover in the goalkeeping department.

Of the youthful squad, Toshack said: “We know these lads are not really ready yet, but we have to get them into the squad now so that they will be ready when the Euro 2008 qualifiers come around.”
