First team coach Martin Hunter is set to quit Norwich City for a coaching job with Watford.
His sudden exit was confirmed by manager Peter Grant after City's opening tour match in Holland.
Hunter is set to team up with former City Youth coach Adie Boothroyd, who is manager at Vicarage Road.
Grant said: “I got a call from Adie Boothroyd on Thursday evening asking for permission to speak to Martin. I think that was after the horse had bolted, really, because I think those talks had been going on.
“If people show an inkling of not wanting to be here any longer, I don't give them very much time here.
“I think it's the right thing. “Martin will move on, and go to Watford, probably. That's life. And we'll get someone else in.”
Hunter arrived at Norwich in June 2006 as a replacement for Steve Foley. He applied for the manager's job when Nigel Worthington was sacked last October but was given just one match as caretaker manager before Grant was brought in.
