Four hours of football in just two days proved to be a step too far for Norwich City's Academy side as they lost their third-place play-off game to Dutch side FC Twente in the Roda Kerkade Tournament in Holland.

Academy manager Ricky Martin took a squad of 17 players, but the weekend didn't get off to the best of starts when heavy rain on Friday evening saw the opening game against the host club postponed until yesterday morning.

The first match, therefore,

was against Hertha Berlin on Saturday morning, when the German side proved to be just too strong for the junior Canaries as they ran out 2-0 victors.

City made amends in their second game on Saturday afternoon, when with goals from Nick Davey and Josh Dawkin they beat Danish side Brondby.

It was a similar scoreline for their re-arranged game against Roda Kerkade with young professionals Corey Smith and Kris Renton both hitting the target.

This left them on level points at the top of their group, but it was Hertha who went through to the final with a better goal difference after they put five

past Brondby.

Martin played some of his younger players in their third-place play-off game but a more experienced Twente side proved to be too strong.

Hertha went on to win the tournament, beating fellow German side Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Norwich squad: Rudd, Smith, Renton, Davey, Kelly, Cooper, Clarke, Dumic, Stephens, Adeyemi, Habergham, Dawkin, Reeves, Francomb, Steer, Cutajara, Brindley.
