Wes Hoolahan made a goal-scoring start to his Australian adventure.
The Norwich City legend made his competitive debut for Newcastle Jets, having signed a one-year deal with the A-League club.
Although the league season doesn't start until October, a match against lower-level Edgeworth Eagles in the FFA Cup, began the campaign in Australia's main cup competition for the Jets.
The 37-year-old playmaker played 81 minutes and was involved in the build-up to the opener for the visitors. He got his name on the scoresheet when reclaiming the lead, slicing at a left-footed effort from just inside the area but smashing the bouncing ball into the top-right corner with his right foot for 2-1.

The Jets went on to book a quarter-final spot with a 5-1 win over the Eagles, who play in the New South Wales division of the regionalised second tier, with the A-League not having relegation. Newcastle's opening league game is at Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, October 19.
