Ondrej Duda is determined to prove he pulls his weight defensively, even if he is enjoying the attacking intent of Norwich City’s play under Daniel Farke.

The attacking midfielder is on loan from Hertha Berlin until the end of the season and has started all four league matches since his arrival, showing flashes of the ability which has brought him 36 international caps with Slovakia.

Duda racked up 11 goals and six assists during 32 games in the Bundesliga last season, before falling out of favour at Berlin, with City boss Farke saying the 25-year-old was valued at around £25million last summer.

"I have had problems in the past with one or two coaches who have said in the media that I don't defend, and that I have to learn discipline," said the Canaries loanee.

"That used to make me a bit mad because I was always defending! Of course I don't defend as much as some defensive players, but I always do my best to help defensively, and to work hard to cover back. I always put 100 percent in."

Duda was persuaded to join Farke's search for survival despite City sitting bottom of the table, still seven points from safety with 12 games remaining.

"It's obviously a difficult decision for a coach because they can only choose 11 players, but my situation in Berlin was bad and that's why I decided to go," he explained. "I was really happy when Norwich gave me an offer.

"I have to say, I didn't expect this move. I'm a positive person but sometimes if you expect less it's a better feeling when you get more. To be playing in the Premier League for a team that plays very good football, and it's the kind of football I like to play, is fantastic."

City need Duda to start contributing to their goal threat quickly if any kind of great escape is to be possible and the playmaker says he is already feeling settled in Norfolk.

"Everyone has welcomed me so warmly and they've prepared me so well which means adapting has been really easy," he added, speaking to City's OTBC matchday programme.

"If I'd gone to a different club in England which don't play the same sort of football like Norwich play, then I might have struggled to adapt. But the style we play is totally suited to me, so hopefully it looks like I've adapted quite well."
