Patrick Roberts believes he is thriving under the influence of Daniel Farke, after playing a starring role in Norwich City’s biggest win of pre-season.

The Manchester City loanee curled in a sumptuous 25-yard strike to seal a 5-1 win over Championship new boys Luton on Saturday, having played a key role in three of the goals already scored.

"Since the first day I've been here he's said brilliant things about me and the team, how he wants to play and what he wants from me," the tricky winger said of his new head coach.

"It's nothing but good things and playing without fear, doing the things that I like doing, like with the goal.

"He just reiterates that every day in training, to do more things, to keep going and don't worry about whatever happens, just keep going."

The former Fulham and Celtic star notched his first goal in Canaries colours during the romp at Kenilworth Road - and hopes it's just the start.

He continued: "As a footballer, scoring at any level, if it's in the season, pre-season or with your mates, whenever, it's what we love to do.

"So any chance I get to score a goal is special and if I can continue that in the Premier League, we'll see…"

The 22-year-old also proved he's working on the defensive side again, after missing the chance to halt a counter-attack from a City corner during the 2-1 friendly win over Schalke, from which the Bundesliga side had equalised.

Just after hour mark Luton broke similarly but Roberts made sure he got his tackle in this time.

"I think that's just part and parcel of football, you've got to do the defensive side and the attacking side," he said.

"Everyone knows what the manager is like, he's very tough and hard, he wants everyone to work hard but enjoy themselves on the pitch.

"If you do both then he'll have a smile on his face and he'll praise you all day long. So defensive or attacking, I'll give the same, each way.

Of Farke, he added: "He's very supportive. When I first spoke to him he was very optimistic and very enthusiastic, and for me that's what I'm looking for.

"I'm the type of player who's looking to get on the ball and for my manager to give me that freedom and the licence to do that, to play without fear, is something to take into my game and enjoy, to do things like I did today and carry that on throughout the whole season."
