Norwich's new on loan arrival Jimmy Smith admitted he already feels at home after his Stamford Bridge switch.

The talented Chelsea midfielder views City's upcoming two-match Dutch tour against Second Division outfits AGOVV Apeldoorn and FC Zwolle as a perfect bonding exercise.

Smith also plans to renew acquaintances with some of the Canaries' England youth internationals.

“I know quite a few of the young ones here - the likes of Joe Lewis and the Jarvis brothers from playing with them at U16 level on,” he said. “It'll be nice to see them again and I think the Holland trip will be good to gel with all the lads. It only really happened a few days ago. I didn't have to speak to any of the guys here because Norwich are a big club and I've played at Carrow Road a few times in the past. I just want to come in, work hard and impress the gaffer so I can play week in week out.”

Smith made his one and only Premiership appearance towards the end of Chelsea's title-winning season at Newcastle in May 2006.

The academy prospect was included on the Blues' US tour 12 months - turning out for Jose Mourinho's side against the MLS All Stars, Feyenoord and Celtic.

Smith admitted he is desperate for regular first team football after finding himself behind high class trio Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and Michael Ballack in the pecking order.

“I need this challenge and see it as part of my development,” he said. “I prefer to play in the centre of midfield but it's wherever the manager wants me to do a job. I'm someone who can support the play, get in the box and score goals.”

The 20-year-old impressed in a stint at City's Championship rivals QPR last season. Smith notched against the Canaries in a 3-3 Loftus Road draw but was suspended for the corresponding fixture.

“I went there initially on loan for three months which was extended for the rest of the season,” he said. “I was happy to go out there and the manager was happy for me to go. I enjoyed it so much and that is why I wanted to come back into the Championship and play games - you can't ask any more at this stage of my career.

“Chelsea was all I'd known since about eight or nine so to go out on loan with one of my best mates Michael Mancienne was a great experience. It definitely helped me with my career and I can only learn more from coming here.”
