Norwich City have completed the signing of Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old joins the Canaries on a season-long loan and will link up with Daniel Farke’s first-team squad ahead of the new season.
Skipp has graduated through the Spurs academy and has been with the club since he was 13.
Skipp made 11 appearances last season, all of which were as a substitute - including two Champions League matches - apart from two cup games.
He recently penned a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2023 and is highly-regarded by Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, who has labelled Skipp as a ‘future captain’ for the club.
City reportedly beat a host of Championship and German clubs to his siganture - with Skipp electing to join the Canaries ahead of Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest and Reading.
Explaining why he joined the club, City’s latest signing told the club’s official channels: “I’m delighted to sign for Norwich. It’s a club that’s looking to go places. This season is a big one for the club and we’ll be looking to get back into the Premier League.
“I spoke to Max Aarons before coming and he only said positive things about the club. Knowing a few of the boys will help me settle in, so I’m really looking forward to getting started.
“I haven’t played as much football as I’d want but this is a massive opportunity and hopefully I’ll show the fans that I’m capable of taking it.”
The Canaries have developed a positive relationship with Spurs since the clubs agreed a deal that saw Marcus Edwards join City on loan in 2018.
Farke will be hoping Skipp can have more success than Edwards and can become a pivotal member of City’s squad going forward. “I’m really happy with this opportunity and to have Oliver with us. We’re thankful and grateful to Jose [Mourinho] and Tottenham because Oliver is full of class and potential.
“He’s experienced on the top level and Jose was there with some very complimentary words. There was a lot of competition for him if we’re being honest.
“We think he is someone who perfectly fits to our game. He’s a brave player, good in possession and full of energy. He likes to dominate the ball and is also good against the ball.
“We’ll give him time to adapt and to come into his rhythm. We won’t put too much pressure on him, but we’re all happy that this signing was possible.”
