Bryan Gunn was today busy putting together the final pieces of his Norwich City jigsaw after taking his tally to nine summer signings with the capture of goalkeeper Ben Alnwick on a three-month loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Gunn confirmed that Alnwick will provide cover and competition for No 1 'keeper Michael Theoklitos, signed from Melbourne Victory earlier in the summer, and Academy product Declan Rudd.

"Ben will come in on a three-month loan from Spurs. We were still waiting on international clearance for Michael, which has only just come through. Declan has been called up on England duty and Jed Steer strained his back in the warm-up against Dereham Town, so it was potentially a fragile goalkeeping situation, which is why I moved for Ben,” he said.

"He will provide cover initially for the first part of the season and provide competition for the number one spot.

"It also allows the youngsters opportunities to progress in the youth and reserve league, which we are in this season. We musn't forget that Declan has just come from the youth level and only has one or two reserve appearances under his belt. The pre-season tour of Scotland provided good experience for him and Jed.

"I look forward to working with Ben," added Gunn on the club's official website.

The 22-year-old came through the youth ranks at Sunderland and made his debut aged 18 against Leicester City in April 2005.

He made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats before moving to Spurs in January 2007. Alnwick has made two appearances for the Lilywhites and has spent time on loan at Luton Town, Leicester City and Carlisle making 18 appearances for the three clubs in five-and-a-half months away from White Hart Lane.

Alnwick has been capped at England Under-21 level and made his debut against Romania in August 2007. Meanwhile, former Academy scholar Arran Lee-Barrett remains on trial with the Club, following his release from Hartlepool United.
