City starlet Idah on his ‘unbelievable’ feeling to score during FA Cup shoot-out win at Spurs

The 19-year-old showed nerves of steel when slotting into the top-right corner to make the score 1-1 on penalties, after Kenny McLean had seen City's first effort saved, only for Erik Lamela to hit the bar for Spurs and offer the visitors a chance to level matters.

Idah replaced Lukas Rupp with 18 minutes of normal time remaining and performed well, as Daniel Farke switched to a more attacking 4-4-2 formation, with Josip Drmic scrambling in an equaliser six minutes later after a powerful shot from another substitute, McLean, was spilled by Tottenham keeper Michel Vorm.

It was just the fifth appearance of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international's senior career - and proved to be rather memorable.

"That's the biggest shoot-out I've been in," Idah reflected "When I saw my name on the paper, I thought 'I just have to be confident' and I was. I wasn't nervous because I've been through it all before. To score the penalty was unbelievable.

"It's a bit nerve-wracking but it's part of football and you just have to deal with it. It's something I've dreamt of since I was a young kid so there was a bit of pressure there, but it was good.

"I've been practising penalties after training all the time so it's good to pull it off."

Idah became the youngest hat-trick scorer in Canaries history during the 4-2 win at Preston in the FA Cup third round in January but has had to be patient for his chances.

With fellow striker Teemu Pukki on the bench but battling a cold, Farke turned to his academy talent at the sold-out 62,000-seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The youngster was alongside Marco Stiepermann and Todd Cantwell in converting from the spot, with goalkeeper Tim Krul the hero thanks to two crucial saves from Troy Parrott and Gedson Fernandes.

"Everyone's over the moon and buzzing," Idah continued, speaking to City's official website ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Sheffield United.

"It was a great way to finish the game and the boys dug in deep. Congrats to Josip for getting his goal. That got us into extra-time, and everyone fought hard before doing well on the penalties.

"Tim has been unbelievable this season, making all those saves. I don't know how many penalties he's saved now, but he's been a credit to us and helped us a lot this season. Fair play to him to save those two penalties, it was great."
