Defender Michael Nelson, reported to be a target for Norwich City, has been given an extra week by Hartlepool United to make a decision on his future.

Nelson, 29, was offered a new deal nearly a month ago and is yet to put pen to paper.

The Gateshead-born centre-back has more than 250 league games behind him for Pool and is well-known to City assistant manager Ian Butterworth.

But Huddersfield are also thought to be monitoring the defender's progress - with former Hartlepool and Norwich coach Paul Stephenson in the Terriers' backroom staff.

Brighton and Hibernian are also reported to be in the running and Clive Hart, Nelson's agent, admits that his future is likely to be away from Victoria Park.
