Lee Clark says he would love to see Norwich and Huddersfield playing Championship football next season.

The Terriers boss spent a little over a year at Carrow Road as assistant to Glenn Roeder and admits that the challenge this afternoon will be one of the biggest his team has faced all season.

While City top the league by five points, Huddersfield have slipped out of the top six and desperately need a win to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Clark's hopes are clear.

“I had a great time down in Norwich,” he said. “They have magnificent fans that sell out every home game and take a massive following away - they deserve the success they have had after a few indifferent years.

“An ideal scenario for me is that the two teams that play tomorrow get promoted to the Championship and come May, hopefully that will happen.

“We have the chance to return to winning ways this Saturday against the league leaders and the best team in this league at the moment in time.

“It's a game that my players are looking forward to, as am I. Take away the fact that it's my old club - it's just because whenever you come up against the league leaders at home. We know they will bring a huge following, so it's a game to look forward to.

“The league table doesn't lie - they have won the most matches to be at the top of the table and they possess a real attacking threat.

“Chris Martin, Grant Holt and Wes Hoolahan have scored a huge amount of goals between them. We know that we are in for a very tough afternoon, but I think Paul (Lambert) will be in the same thought process - that his team will be in for a tough weekend as well.

“The Norwich supporters understand their football and would have seen in the first 45 minutes at Carrow Road that we possess a threat and we are a good side ourselves.”

Huddersfield could go back into the top six with a win today - but Clark insists he only worries about the table at the end of the season.

“It has no effect on me because the only time that the table matters is May 8,” he said. “The table will change so much between now and the end of the season; that can be guaranteed because everybody in the top seven has to play each other so that table will change so much. It will come down to who is relaxed and doesn't get excited who will move in to the top six places and doesn't get too despondent if they are just on the edge of it. Let's just wait until May 8 and see where we are at the end of it.

“We can't be weak enough to be so up and down just because we have had an indifferent week.”
