Cort - Wolves will want revenge after City thrashing

Striker Carl Cort believes his team-mates should be wary of a Wolverhampton Wanderers side hunting for revenge when the Canaries come to town tomorrow night.

Norwich were 5-2 winners against the Championship leaders at Carrow Road in October, something of a blip for Wanderers who have looked in top shape for the majority of the season.

Now Norwich travel to Molineux for the return fixture and Cort, pictured below, knows his former side will be up for a match they will be favourites to take the three points from - although he feels the Canaries can upset the odds once more.

“They are pushing for promotion and obviously they are going to be wanting to get one back on what the boys done earlier on in the season against them,” said the 31-year-old.

“So they're going to be fired up, we're going to be fired up. We're playing for two different situations and hopefully we go into the game on a high.

“We do know we need the three points. We know we needed the three points (at Doncaster) and in the last game against Southampton, so we're going to go there and be positive and we're not going to sit back. We're going to play our way and impose our game on them.

“They always have a fantastic crowd. Obviously having been there myself, I know what their fans are like and they are good supporters.

“Wolves have built up a good momentum of results, but it is what happens on the day and it's which team is up for it and which team is ready, and I believe we're going to be in top shape and ready to get something out of the game.”

Cort got another 45 minutes under his belt, having come on to replace the injured Darel Russell moments before half-time, in City's 1-1 draw with Doncaster on Friday night.

And the former Newcastle forward was happy to take another step on his long road back to regular football - although he felt he should have had more to celebrate, after he was adjudged offside when breaking free in the second half; his effort was well saved by Rovers keeper Neil Sullivan before Jamie Cureton buried the rebound with the scores level.

“I've actually looked at it on the DVD and I was onside, which is even more disappointing.

“The boys are pretty disappointed about that but it's a close one, the linesman obviously made a mistake but being a goal down and pulling it back is obviously, in our eyes, a good result and a good point coming here,” added Cort, who was happy to get an unexpectedly long run-out.

“Obviously it was under extraordinary events in terms of Rusty having to come off, but that benefitted me in a sense because it's more minutes again, and that's what I need.

“I think I need to build up some momentum in terms of games to get back into it really. It is difficult to say where I am fitness-wise because it's been such a while since I've been at my peak.

“I do know I'm a bit off in terms of match sharpness. I feel fit but match fitness is not quite there yet.

“But as I say, being able to get another 45 minutes is good and there is another game on Tuesday and hopefully I can get a large spell of that game as well. Every game counts; I've got to keep myself ticking over, keep myself fit and in good shape.”
