OK, be honest, at the beginning of December did you predict that Nigel Worthington would be the Championship's manager of the month? For the record, I didn't. Actually, when a friend called me on his way home from Derby to inform me that he'd just witnessed possibly the worst performance he can ever remember from a Norwich side, my thoughts couldn't have been further from it.

Credit where credit's due though and surely even Worthy's biggest critic must, at least temporarily, swallow some pride and tip his hat in the direction of the gaffer. Three tricky away victories, including the tough Boxing Day trip to Sheffield United, and two sound home wins were enough to give Nigel the nod in the voting.

But just in case anyone was getting carried away, Monday's pasting by in-form Preston would soon have merrily restored those all too familiar anxieties and fears with which we all seem so much more at ease. And so, as we enter the new year the manager will be under no illusions. The board has continued to show unification in its support for the current management regime, but the split views amongst the club's fans promises to run for a little longer.

Like all of us, I've thought long and hard about all of this, and I wonder if its not time we got used to the status quo and backed the Chairman and board. If we trust the people who run our club then maybe we should opt for putting our faith back in them. Please don't get me wrong on this the most sensitive of present issues, I am as concerned as anyone about some of our performances this season, not to mention a good number of Nigel Worthington signings

However, I have to remind myself that the board know far more about what really goes on than I am ever likely to. I also believe that consistency and stability are crucial to ongoing growth. If we were an impatient football club, who sacked our manager months after he got us into the Premership, how would it affect the players and who would want to sign for us? How indeed would we ever attract good players at all?

With prudent additions to the squad, there is every possibility we will earn another ride in the play off rollercoaster come May, let's review things again then.

Happy New Year.
