Winger Lee Croft today pledged to supply the ammunition for new striker Dion Dublin to hopefully fire the Canaries back into the Premiership.

The former Manchester City paceman is statistically one of the most successful crossers of the ball in the Coca-Cola Championship and, with Dublin as a big target man, he is confident that it won't be long before the goals begin to flow.

Croft, who picked up a slight thigh strain against Crystal Palace that kept him out of the Carling Cup win over Rotherham on Tuesday, is hoping to recover in time for tomorrow's match against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park (3pm).

If he is passed fit, it will come as a big relief for City boss Nigel Worthington who will surely be desperate for the 21-year-old to link up with the evergreen Dublin.

“It's coming along. I've been doing a lot of work while the lads have been away,” said Croft. “It's feeling a lot better and I'll do some testing and touch wood if I come through the tests then I can train with the lads before the game and hopefully it will be fine.”

Croft added: “Dion will give us an extra dimension, I think. He's a good signing for the club. Earnie has been doing well up front and to be able to bring someone in alongside him will only benefit the team. To get that height and that aerial threat, especially for me if I am delivering balls in to get them on his head, will be great.

“Hopefully Earnie and Dion will complement each other with the way that Dion gets hold of the ball and the way that he brings people into the game, and you have got Earnie who is a little livewire who can do special things and can work off him. So it should be an exciting combination.”

Croft is also well aware that City need to start picking up points on their travels, especially before any gap begins to form between the top teams and the also-rans.

“It's really frustrating really as we feel that we have done well on our travels but we have not picked up that win yet, which is really disappointing,” he said. “Last week at Southend we were all really gutted after the game. It's really important now that we start picking up points away from home, especially after what we consider what wasn't the best of weeks last week.

“We don't want a gap creating. And I am sure that unless you were in the dressing room with us last week then you won't know how hurt we were after the Southend game.

“We had the points in the bag and were cruising at 3-1 up and then to concede two late goals it really did feel like a loss. As long as we can play with the same conviction as we have been doing away from home then I think we will start picking up the points.”

He added: “We are all strong mentally, which is a key factor and we all have faith in one another. There are a lot of good players at the club and the staff know that it is only a matter of time before we get that first away win. We are going to give it our all to put it right on Saturday.”

Manager Nigel Worthington made seven changes, some enforced and others by choice, at Rotherham.

Gary Doherty, Youssef Safri and Robert Earnshaw, all rested in midweek, are expected to return tomorrow, while Dion Dublin will be included in the squad, provided City receive international clearance from the Scottish FA following his spell with Celtic.

On-loan Patrick Boyle could make his second appearance at left-back in place of the injured Adam Drury. Ryan Jarvis, on target twice at Rotherham, could be a candidate to start if Croft is ruled out.

Plymouth boss Ian Holloway, still searching for the first home win of the season, will have to reshuffle his defence. Hansey Aljofree has lost his fight to be fit after being carried off during the defeat at Southampton last week with a head injury. The central defender suffered a bloody nose and concussion and his absence means Holloway will either play 21-year-old Gary Sawyer or Dutchman Marcel Seip. Sawyer has made only one appearance, as a substitute, since moving from Exeter in the summer, as has Seip, a summer signing from Heerenveen.

Right-back Paul Connolly is expected to play after missing the last two games with toe injury. Lee Hodges has suffered medial knee ligament damage and is out.
