Young Norwich City midfielder Daniel Adshead believes now is the right time in his career to continue his development on loan - and the 18-year-old is hoping to secure a move to SC Telstar.
Adshead has been training with the Dutch second-division side for a few weeks and has even featured in their pre-season campaign under current Telstar boss and ex-Arsenal academy manager Andries Jonker.
Edgar Davids, a football legend formerly of AC Milan, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur, has been appointed as the club’s assistant manager in recent days.
For Adshead, this trial at Telstar has merely reinforced his desire to go out and experience a first-team environment again after breaking through at Rochdale prior to joining the Canaries.
“I’ve been at Norwich now for a year and it’s been a really good experience for me, playing with the under-23s. I trained with and used their brilliant facilities but we think the time is right for me to try and find a first-team to grow as a player and develop more in a first-team environment.
“Hopefully Telstar will give me that opportunity so that’s why you saw me today.”
City midfielder Charlie Gilmour spent last season on loan with the Eerste Divisie club and Adshead has spoken to the Scot about his experiences at Telstar.
“He (Charlie Gilmour) didn’t have a bad word to say about Telstar. He made my mindset really positive coming here because of what he has said and what people at Norwich have said, like the coaches.
“I was really excited to come over and I’m loving every minute of it at the moment.
“It’s up to the clubs now I think, I’m really enjoying it here. Me and my family think that it’s the right decision for me at this stage of my career as well as people at Norwich, they also think that.”
Adshead is hoping that an agreement can be reached between the clubs so that he can play his football at the Rabobank IJmond Stadion next season.
“We’re all in agreement and it’s just up to the clubs now,” Adshead told NH Sport. When asked whether he would like to sign for the club on loan, he said: “I would like that.”
