DEREHAM Wanderers U12 Girls played in the final of the Norfolk Women's and Girl's Football League Cup against North Walsham Angels at Thorpe Rec on Saturday.

Having previously had two close league matches it was expected to be a close and tough game.

Dereham, once again playing their new formation, took control from the first whistle while North Walsham looked decidedly off colour as perhaps nerves got the better of them.

Dereham took an early lead when Lanti got her head to one of Georgy's long throw-ins, while she was looking to flick it on; it caught the goalkeeper out and nestled into the net at the far post.

With a lead inside the first five minutes Dereham could not have asked for a better start and continued to dominate and were the only team looking likely to add to the scoring.

Wave after wave of attacks saw the girls come so close to extending the lead while at the other end Chantelle was playing through the pain barrier in goal and Sarah and Becka were standing solid against the rare North Walsham Attacks.

A deserved second goal came after a very decisive move involving all three of Dereham attacking players, Chelsea laid the ball off to Lanti who ran with the ball before squaring it to Joy who was inside the area, she took a couple of touches before sending a powerful shot to the keeper's right who could only watch as it found the back of the net.

Dereham were 2-0 up at half-time and in control.

At the break the girls were reminded that last time they had played North Walsham they were also 2-0 up at the same time but let them back into the game after the break with two quick goals, this was not to happen again!

The second half started where the first had finished, Dereham with plenty of possession and looking the stronger side.

North Walsham have a player in Merrick who never gives up, she is full of running and a very determined player but while she continued to give it her all Dereham still created all the chances.

Chelsea was having a fantastic game showing tremendous pace and strength and was giving the North Walsham defence a fright every time she got the ball, superbly supported by Joy and Lanti,

Dereham were just so impressive going forward. Georgy was yet again absolutely solid in midfield. Ellen had come on for Sarah just before the break and was showing a new, brave side to her game by twice heading the ball away.

Lanti got a third Dereham goal to make the game safe after which they were playing for fun and were creating more, good goal scoring chances.

Chelsea got her goal to make it 4-0 with a neat finish after another lovely build-up and with 10 minutes still remaining Dereham attempted to get the one more goal needed to make it 200 league and cup goals for the season, unfortunately it wasn't to be.

The final whistle went and Dereham had won the double, they had achieved it last year as U11s and again this year as U12s, but this time they were unbeaten all season.

Manager Lindsay Vallis told them all that he was incredibly proud of them and was thankful to them for all their hard work and effort they had all put in this season, they had deserved the success as they had earned it with some terrific, powerful performances during a long season.
