Ryan Jarvis marked an historic night for his club and his family with two goals to help steer the Canaries into the Carling Cup third round.

Striker Ryan, 20, and Rossi, 18, playing at left-back, became the first brothers to appear for the City first team in the same match for 76 years as they secured a 4-2 win at Rotherham.

Afterwards, the double goalscorer admitted: “It's good for the family but the most important thing is we're in the next round of the Cup. We needed to get the result tonight and we've done that so everybody's happy.”

Ryan scored after 53 minutes to make it 2-2, then scored City's fourth goal nearly five minutes into stoppage time to wrap up victory.

He said: “We made it hard for ourselves. We made a good start but then it was a sloppy first half, but we managed to grind the result out so I'm very happy now.

“We conceded a goal straight after half-time and we thought it was going to be a massive uphill battle so to get my first goal straight after their goal, it was a boost.”

Of his injury-time clincher, he said: “We were hanging on and they were pushing us all the way. All we could do was just clear the ball and try and get hold of it. It took the pressure off the team.

“The team worked tremendously hard at the end to get a result. It was a massive battle. These games always are against the lower league teams. They make it so hard for you. We stuck to the task and got the job done.”

Manager Nigel Worthington said: “I'm pleased for Ryan because for one reason and another he's found it hard getting into the eleven, or the sixteen. We know he's capable of scoring goals and he's at a stage now where he needs to really push himself on and make his mark.

“He's the first one to know that there's been a lot of talk about talent, ability, this, that and the other. It's now time to really show that. He's got it, so go and express it and we've got to pick him. There will be times when he's in, time when he's out.”

Worthington also had praise for Rossi Jarvis and 19-year-old debutant Robert Eagle, both operating on the left-hand side.

“It was a good test for Jarvis and Eagle,” said Worthington. “They stuck to their task and they finished up being nice and steady and I was very pleased with them.”
