They paid the penalty for not taking chances their early play created, and found it increasingly difficult to get through a big Stow defence.
The visitors scored the only goal of the game at the end of a 65th minute counter-attack, through Lee Drummond.
Downham Town went down to a 4-0 defeat at Long Melford with the scoreline flattering the hosts.

Melford went ahead after 16 minutes, a good ball from defence found Daw who left his markers standing and then thumped the ball past Barwick into the net.
Within two minutes Daw showed his pace again to fire past Barwick.
