Winger Robert Eagle is to sign a new one-year contract with Norwich City, manager Glenn Roeder confirmed today.

Eagle, 21, did not make a first team appearance last season and figured only twice as an unused substitute, at Manchester City in the Carling Cup and in the home game against Barnsley.

He made 12 senior appearances, however, the previous season under former managers Nigel Worthington and Peter Grant.

“He's going to sign a new one-year contract. That's because I think he's not a bad player,” said Roeder.

“Technically he's gifted and I think with a full year's work, working with us, in the gym with a specific strengthening programme, we can make Robert stronger and that will help him.

“Left-footed players are quite rare and he has got a very nice left foot, quite cultured. He's earned the year with his attitude and his motivation to try to get another contract and his dream's come true that he's staying here for another year.”

Eagle played 17 out of City's 18 reserve team fixtures in 2007-08, scoring twice.
