Former Norwich City right-back Marc Edworthy has urged Canaries starlet Max Aarons to stay at Carrow Road and continue his development.

The 20-year-old has been the subject of constant speculation since City gained promotion to the Premier League last season and has impressed with his performances at top-flight level.

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have been among those linked with City’s academy graduate.

Aarons has played 27 times for the Canaries this season, contributing with two assists in the Premier League.

Edworthy starred with City in the 2003/04 title winning season after joining the club on a free transfer. The 47-year-old has praised the Canaries for their ability to produce young talent.

“They’ve got some fantastic players there, they really have. They’ve always produced young players from the academy and they’ve brought in good players too.

“In the Championship, they were outstanding. There’s so many young players coming into the squad now and that’s great for Norwich and the fans.”

Aarons is one of four academy graduates to feature consistently under Daniel Farke this season, with Adam Idah also a consistent member of the squad.

For Edworthy, if the club want to progress to the next level, then they need to retain the services of their young talents.

“It’s only great for them if they can keep those players because they’re super talented and they are the ones you want to watch week in, week out.

“He (Aarons) has got a wonderful future and he’s playing superbly well in the Premier League at the moment,” Edworthy continued.

“Ideally, they’d love to keep him but if you get relegated then the vultures begin to come out and they go for the young, top-quality players and he’s certainly one of them.

“I just hope he can stay at Norwich because he’s got a wonderful future ahead of him.

“It’s such a great place to play and we see young players come through the squad. You feel comfortable playing there and let’s hope they can stay up if the season continues.”
