Former Norwich City player-of-the-season winner Robert Snodgrass has been charged by the Football Association after allegedly abusing anti-doping officials.

The West Ham and Scotland winger was not scheduled to be tested nor did he refuse to take a test when officials visited the Hammers’ training ground in February, Press Association Sport understands.

“Robert Snodgrass has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3(1),” the FA said in a statement.

“It is alleged the player used abusive and/or insulting words towards UK Anti-Doping officials who were visiting West Ham United’s training ground on 06 February 2019 to conduct out-of-competition testing. He has until 18 March 2019 to respond.”

BBC Sport are reporting that the Scot could be facing a one-game ban and a fine of £8,000 if he admits the charge.

Snodgrass, signed from Hull for a reported fee of £10.2million in January 2017, has scored four goals in a total of 32 appearances for the Premier League side this season.

The 31-year-old lifted the Barry butler Memorial Trophy in 2014 after being voted City’s player of the season by supporters at the end of a season which ended in relegation to the Championship under Neil Adams.

The free-kick specialist was then sold to Hull in a deal reportedly worth £8m, after 14 goals in 74 games having been signed from Leeds for around £3m in 2012.

Snodgrass suffered a serious knee injury early in his Hull spell but has rebuilt his career after signing for West Ham, spending last season on loan in the Championship with Aston Villa, before reemerging under Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium this season.
