Ralf Fahrmann has admitted he wasn’t ‘happy with his situation’ at Norwich City during his loan spell in Norfolk.
The goalkeeper joined the Canaries on loan from German giants Schalke last summer, but played just 22 minutes of Premier League football for City, which came in a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in September.
Tim Krul’s impressive form coupled with injury woe restricted the German’s time at City to appearances in cup competitions as he understudied for Krul.
Fahrmann joined Norwegian top-flight side SK Brann on-loan in February, with a view to make the move permanent in the summer.
Speaking prior to the postponement of football because of coronavirus, Fahrmann said: “Last summer, I moved to Norwich on a loan contract but I was not happy with my situation there and now I’m here at Brann.
“I’m very happy because it’s a beautiful city and the people are very nice. The situation in England and Germany is that we always have the summer free. In Norway, you can play in the summertime. In the last months, I didn’t play so much in Norwich, so I decided on my own that I don’t need holidays, I don’t want free time. I just want to play football because that it was I love and was born for.”
Fahrmann’s last outing for City was in the FA Cup fourth round, when he was between the sticks as the Canaries conquered Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor, with the German making a great save to deny Jay Rodriguez in the first half.
Krul took centre-stage in the fifth round, however, starring as City won their first shoot-out in 11 years to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
The outbreak of coronavirus has seen European domestic leagues suspended as society looks to tackle the pandemic. Norway has elected to cancel all footballing activity until April 15. Fahrmann’s arrival is seen as a coup for the Norwegian outfit according the club’s supporters. Speaking after the 31-year-old’s arrival, Brann’s sporting director Rune Soltvedt said: “Ralf is a goalkeeper of high international quality.
“This is a player on a shelf from which it is basically inconceivable that Brann can pick up players, and we are very happy that we have got a very good deal.”
