AFTER last year it is a pleasure to write an article after the start to the season we have had so far, topped off by the performance against Barnsley which was probably as well as we have played for a long time.

Inevitably with the feelgood factor at Carrow Road back to where it always should be with 101 per cent support for the team on the field, expectations have gone from zero to sky high, and already for some automatic promotion is a formality. If only life was that simple. However, in acknowledgement of the vast improvement so far, long may it continue. Leagues are not won or lost in August but it is still good to be in our position today. I am not being pessimistic, rather more realistic, in assessing our current situation and future potential.

There is no doubt that we still need to bring in at least three players to cover, striker, left back and goalkeeper, as it is highly unlikely that we shall be able to field our current 11 for another 41 matches, excluding cup games.

Inevitably injuries, suspension or loss of form will play a part. Much was said pre-season and since regarding new acquisitions and I think most people now realise that getting the right players is easier said than done.

Even allowing for the Green money, there is still not a large pot available to Nigel Worthington to spend. Thus it is essential that he is allowed to do what he deems necessary without pressure off the pitch.

Already players he signed who looked below par last season now look the business, but again it is really early days yet, so let us not get carried away.

If and when we hit a hiccup in form, as all teams do, remember how you feel at present and keep the faith. We are too well aware what can happen when fans' expectations are unfulfilled.

While positive results are important, my biggest satisfaction so far has been the way in which the team are playing to our strengths. You could summarise, control, pass and move, something Steve Foley regarded as basic. I believe the sale of Robert Green was good business for the club as clearly towards the end of last season he made it clear his future was elsewhere. It's a pity in making statements to the press of his future aspirations, he did not find time to thank the City supporters who backed him for 10 years! Maybe one day somebody will.

Message to all at Colney - well done so far, keep it going. We have always said City fans are second to none, so take a bow all of you who travelled to Torquay, absolutely brilliant. The score wasn't too bad either.

Whatever circumstances have brought about City's change in fortune the beneficiary is NCFC which of course is all supporters, without which there is no football club.
