Wisbech Town have a mountain to climb if they are to win a coveted top-three place in the Ridgeons Premier Division - but manager Dick Creasey isn't complaining.

The Fenmen face eight away trips in their remaining 10 fixtures - beginning at in-form Leiston this afternoon - but Creasey reckons current form is good enough to overcome such a massive hurdle: although Wisbech had a run of five consecutive home matches in January and February, eight wins out of 10 is something special.

The run-in, though, with a place in the next tier of the non-league pyramid available for a top-three finish, is something different.

"I think a couple of the games are because of either our involvement in the FA Vase or our opponents', but it is strange," he said. "It's incredible, really, but it's not something we're angry about.

"Some of our form away from home has been better than at Fenland Park. Basically, we've got a few miles to put in and we've just got to get on with it."

Wisbech are fifth in the table but can do plenty of damage to their rivals' hopes, with AFC Sudbury, Ipswich Wanderers, Bury Town and Lowestoft all still on their fixture list.

Creasey might have found himself in a more comfortable position had it not been for Robert Fleck's Diss Town, who ruined that 10-game sequence with home and away wins over the Fenmen last month.

"I am sure if you asked Robert he would say we were unlucky in those two games," said the Fenmen boss. "We threw it away at home in the last 10 minutes and at their place it was really windy. They had the wind with them one half, we had it in the other, but they managed to score in theirs and we didn't.

"If we don't get what we want out of this season that is where we will have lost it."

Creasey takes a full squad to Leiston this afternoon, a team they cuffed 8-1 in the FA Vase and then 3-1 in the league.

"It's going to be a tough game because they've found a bit of form, and frankly, when we beat them in the Vase, it just happened to be one of those days when everything we hit went in," he said. "I said at the time they were a good side and my opinion hasn't changed.

"But we're in a confident mood - eight wins out of 10 you have to be."

Leaders Sudbury are at Soham, while second-placed Bury will expect all three points at doomed Clacton. Lowestoft, in third, travel to Harwich & Parkeston, while Needham Market are at Newmarket. Ipswich Wanderers are at home to King's Lynn Reserves.
