It ended up being a relatively quiet first deadline day for Norwich City but the transfer window is not closed yet - with Timm Klose the latest Canaries player facing an uncertain future.

EFL and Premier League clubs have until 5pm on Friday, October 16 to complete domestic business but Uefa’s international window closed at 11pm last night, ahead of today’s deadline to register players for European cup competitions.

The day kicked off with the expected club record sale of Ben Godfrey to Everton being confirmed, in a deal understood to be worth an initial £25million, with potential add-on fees to follow.

However, it was fellow centre-back Timm Klose who ended up being the main focus for City fans, after it emerged that Swiss side Basel had held talks with the Canaries about a possible season-long loan deal for the Switzerland international, with an option to make the move permanent.

The transfer window for the Swiss Super League doesn’t close until next Monday and Basel have already been knocked out of the Europa League qualifiers, so it’s believed a prospective deal for the 32-year-old could still go through.

Klose was born in Germany but moved to Switzerland as a youngster and grew up in Basel. He joined Norwich from Wolfsburg in January 2016 for around £7.5m and has made 128 appearances but saw his last two campaigns heavily disrupted by knee problems.

While Ben Gibson was already in place as Godfrey’s replacement, it would seem likely that a new addition would be needed if Klose were to leave, due to Christoph Zimmermann and Grant Hanley both having injury issues in the past year as well. Midfielders Alex Tettey and Jacob Sorensen are also capable of playing in defence, with U23 prospects Akin Famewo and Rocky Bushiri on loan at Charlton and Mechelen respectively.

Otherwise, reports of Fenerbahce being keen on Emi Buendia and fellow Turkish side Basaksehir wanting Onel Hernandez didn’t turn into legitimate interest - with Fenerbahce signing Roma’s Argentine playmaker Diego Perotti on a free transfer yesterday.

The transfer deadline has now passed in Turkey and passes in Holland and Portugal today, with Russia (October 17) and Croatia (October 19) the only other countries still open for business.

Josip Drmic, Moritz Leitner and Tom Trybull all remain out in the cold as well, after no fresh interest - with the Press Association reporting recently that three unnamed Championship clubs had shown interest in Leitner.
