HETHERSETT Ladies breathed a collective sigh of relief as they recorded their first Eastern Region Women's League win of the season on Sunday.

After home draws against Peterborough and Cambridge University, the team was keen to kick start its season. They made hard work, however, of beating a spirited Bedford side despite having virtually all the attacking play.

Emily Coates had the ball in the net after just 30 seconds but the effort was ruled out due to the player shouting “mine” as the ball came across.

It took Hethersett 64 minutes of virtually non stop attacking to score the winning goal.

After a number of corners the ball fell to Coates who fired home. Hethersett continued to attack with Jenna Thirtle prominent but they failed to add to their advantage and almost paid the price in injury time as Bedford fired into the side-netting with a rare attack.
