Alan Irvine looks set for a return to football with West Ham, following his summer exit from Norwich City.

The 59-year-old Scot will reportedly join his former boss at Everton, David Moyes, in taking over at the London Stadium following the sacking of Slaven Bilic earlier today.

Irvine took over at Norwich on an interim basis in March following the sacking of Alex Neil and led the Canaries to five wins and two draws during his time in charge, including a notable 7-1 thrashing of Reading at Carrow Road to guide City to eighth in the final Championship standings.

He left his role as first team coach a couple of weeks after the arrival of head coach Daniel Farke and his backroom team from Germany in May.

The former Preston and West Brom boss had spoken of his time in charge replenishing his desire to be a manager but the pull of the Premier League and working with Moyes looks set to take him to West Ham.

Unofficial Hammers website thewesthamway.co.uk report that Irvine will be joining Moyes for the rest of the season, with former Manchester City and England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce also set to arrive.

They are due to work alongside the only surviving member of Bilic’s staff, former Norwich number one Chris Woods, who is the club’s goalkeeping coach.

Former Everton and Manchester United manager Moyes is yet to be confirmed by the London club but it is being widely reported that he is set to take over, with West Ham in the relegation zone after a 4-1 home loss to Liverpool at the weekend.

Irvine was Moyes’ assistant at Preston North End between 1998 and 2001 before becoming academy director at Newcastle. The former Crystal Palace winger was also assistant at Everton between 2005 and 2007, during Moyes’ 10-year reign at Goodison Park, before leaving to become Preston manager.
