Former Norwich City manager Paul Lambert has left Wolverhampton Wanderers after just six months in charge of the Championship club.

Lambert leaves after Wolves undertook a review of football operations which took place at the end of the season.

The 47-year-old Scot will be the third head coach relieved of his duties by owners Fosun since they bought the club last July.

The announcement follows media reports that former Porto boss Nuno Espirito Santo had been lined up to replace the man who led Norwich to successive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

A statement released by Wolves says: “Wolves and Paul Lambert have agreed to part company following a football review which took place at the end of the season.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Paul for his dedication and professionalism during his time at the club, which included some memorable victories, and wish him all the best in his future career.

“In addition, first team coaches Stuart Taylor and Rob Edwards, and head of sport Science Tony Daley, will also be leaving Wolves with immediate effect.

“As part of the coaching restructure, the club are currently in discussions with (goalkeeper coach) Pat Mountain regarding the possibility of him taking up a role within the academy.

“Tony and Rob have given many years of loyal and committed service to Wolves, and the club would like to thank them for their substantial contributions over a long period of time.

“Along with Paul, all three departing members of the backroom staff leave with the club’s best wishes. A further announcement on a new head coach and backroom team will be made in due course.”

Well known agent Jorge Mendes is advising the Fosun ownership group at Molineux and has been behind an influx of Portuguese talent initially brought in after last summer’s takeover, with former Inter Milan goalkeeper Walter Zenga initially made head coach.

The Italian was sacked after just 87 days having won four of 14 games and the team in 18th.

Lambert took over in November and won 14 of his 34 games in charge, steering the West Midlands club clear of relegation trouble in 15th and to victories over Premier League sides Stoke and Liverpool before losing to Chelsea in the fifth round.

He has now had three clubs since leaving the Canaries in the summer of 2012, spending almost three seasons of frustration at Aston Villa, before keeping Blackburn in the Championship at the end of 2015-16.
