King's Lynn boss Carl Heggs is in talks with ex-Norwich City academy keeper Danny Gay to solve his goalkeeping crisis.

Number one Jason White is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks after breaking his hand in three places during the club's Unibond Premier Division 1-1 draw against Worksop at The Walks.

Heggs was poised to discuss a potential hometown move for Gay at last night's Ridgeons Premier derby with Wisbech.

The 26-year-old left Chelmsford City last year following the club's promotion to the Conference South but did feature for Norwich in a pre-season friendly win over Thetford.

Heggs was forced to blood impressive young reserve stopper Ally McAnally for his senior debut against the Notts outfit.

"I thought young Ally did well when he came on," said Heggs, "But we have the opportunity to sign a guy with experience who is born and bred in King's Lynn. Jason needs an operation. He went to hospital in King's Lynn after the game and they told him his hand needs wiring. He has to talk to the PFA to see if they can pay for the operation.

"I'm confident of signing a very good keeper in Danny. I've known about him for the last four or five weeks. He has been training with Norwich and played a couple of games but I had the chance to take Jason White who had played 70-odd Football League games.

"I gave Danny a call and he's actually been to watch us and has been impressed by the team. He's desperate to be part of it and that's what I want to hear because I'm trying to build a new King's Lynn."

Heggs has also stepped up his search for attacking reinforcements after Anthony Robinson's red card in the feisty midweek draw.

Robinson and Town defender Tom Jones were both dismissed for their part in a fracas that erupted before half time.

"I've just been knocked back by a Conference club for a loan move because they don't want the player to drop down," said Heggs. "Plus there's a lad Phil Green who played with at Aston Villa. He's only 17 but if we could get him he'd be a great signing for the future. I'm speaking to his dad who represents him. Luckily Jordan Smith will be back from suspension when Robbo starts his.

"I thought the referee over-reacted. The ball hit the deck, the keeper dived on it and Robbo has gone for the ball. He even pulled out a bit. He didn't volley him in the head or anything but he did kick his hand. The Worksop lads didn't do him any favours."

Heggs was also asked to leave the technical area in the second half.

"There was no card shown or anything like that," said Heggs. "The referee just asked me to leave so I obliged. It wasn't even the referee. I'd come out of my technical area to say something and the assistant bumped into me so I told him to calm down. He couldn't get his flag up quickly enough.

Heggs added: "At the risk of people saying I'm looking through rose-tinted glasses I thought we battered Worksop. Possession-wise, we were the best side."
