New King's Lynn assistant boss Lee Glover predicted good times ahead yesterday at the Southern League, Premier Division club.

The ex-Corby and Grantham manager is relishing the prospect of working alongside Keith Webb after a much needed break from the game to recharge his batteries.

"I'm delighted to get back in," he said. "Since I left Grantham I've had four or five offers which didn't feel right. Keith spoke to me a couple of months ago about players and then came back to me with this offer. King's Lynn are a big club at Southern League level. They are pushing for the Conference and I want to be a part of that. Everything is geared to going up. I'd been in the game non stop since I was a youngster at Nottingham Forest and it was good to have some time away."

Glover has spent the last three months working for Portsmouth after a scouting stint at Leicester but the high profile 37-year-old has a wealth of non league contacts.

"I know the managers and the players in our league and the one above," he said. "Keith is the manager and he will have the final say but I will be there to help in any way I can.

"We are trying to bring in the right kind of player and I think my experience is something that can benefit the club."

Linnets' chairman Ken Bobbins insisted Glover's arrival is another key part of the club's promotion push.

"If you look at the clubs who have been successful at our level they all have a similar set up," he said. "We had four or five candidates but Lee fitted the bill. His knowledge of northern-based players is a plus and he can also bring some fresh ideas on the coaching side. It just allows us some leeway with scouting players and matches."

Meanwhile, Bobbins has pulled out of the race for Woodbridge Town hitman Joe Francis after refusing to smash the club's transfer record for the unproven 20-year-old.

"Just because we are King's Lynn does not mean we will pay over the odds," he said. "The player was desperate to come and we had agreed personal terms with him and his father.

"I'd spoken to the Woodbridge chairman at length this week and I believe there are two other Ridgeons clubs interested, but you must remember the player would have been coming up two leagues and there are no guarantees. Keith has identified other left sided players, so we'll move on."

Bobbins confirmed talks are ongoing with former Boston United defender Ben Chapman but ambitious plans to lure former Oldham striker Paul Warne have been put on the backburner.

The Norwich-born veteran is poised to remain in the professional ranks after his Boundary Park release.

"Paul was pleased we took the trouble to sound him out," said Bobbins. "He has enjoyed his experiences of coming here in the past but he has two deals from football league clubs on the table. It's one I think we could look to do in the future."
