Kirkley and Pakefield took an instant liking to their lush new playing surface at Walmer Road which has been tenderly cared for by the trio of Mick, Gino and Mervyn. A true spectacle of their work could be seen in the pass and movement of the home side who mesmerised Haverhill and knocked in six into the rivals' net without reply.

Leading the way was Lee Gilman with a foursome - all different types of goals from several angles with Hendo and Milo completing the rout.

No game on the surface for the first team until Saturday, September 20, when Norwich United come into the FA Vase. In other cup competitions, Kirkley, who are long overdue for some cup silverware, sees other home ties against Gorleston in the league and Mildenhall in the Suffolk Premier Cup. There is a rearranged league match at current whipping boys Whitton on September 13.

The next pre-match luncheon has been arranged by the Guro Keith Cotterill for September 20, the FA Vase match. Get in early as there are limited spaces at £15 a head, which includes a three-course meal, admittance and programme providing excellent value. For tickets see Keith, Gerry or Harry.
