It has been a quiet week with the snow seeing County 5IVES fixtures at the FDC, Dereham, UEA, Diss, Easton and Thorpe falling victim to the weather.

This week we are taking a look at the County 5IVES leagues at Lynn Grove High School, Gorleston, which did run.

There are leagues played at the venue in Gorleston on two evenings of the week, these being Monday and Thursday.

Our Monday night league currently has 12 teams competing across the two divisions, whilst on Thursday there are three leagues with eight teams in each division.

• Monday Premiership

We start our review with the Monday Premiership, where ‘Iguana FC’ remains the only team to have won both of their games so far this season. They opened up with a 2-0 win against ‘Payton FC’, before thrashing ‘Ji Sung Cliff Park’ 7-1, and now hold a two point lead at the top of the league. Following on their heels are ‘Wilson FC’, who won their opener 7-0 before drawing with ‘Payton FC’ in what was a 3-3 thriller. All of the teams in the Premier Division have achieved at least a point so far, in what promises to be a competitive league.

• Monday Championship

The Monday Championship has also proved to be very tight so far. ‘Just a keeper’ is the only team with two wins from two, with both triumphs coming via 1-0 victories.

Again, after two games all teams have gained at least a point and amazingly there is yet to be a game where both teams have scored in a fixture. Defences certainly appear to be on top in this division.

• Thursday Premiership

‘Smack My Pitch Up’ and ‘Toke It Up’ have both started with comprehensive 4-0 wins in the Thursday Premiership. David Lawrence netted an impressive hat trick for the former, whilst a Dean Harper brace for the latter set up their win. ‘E is For Idiots’ ran out 2-0 winners against ‘Rumbold Arms’, with Andrew Lily and Barney King on target. ‘Gorleston 6s’ and ‘Gorleston Albion’ shared eight goals in their encounter, with Liam Williams scoring a hat-trick for 6s.

• Thursday Championship

‘Cream Horns’ lead the way in the Thursday Championship after winning 6-2 against ‘Three Lions’. ‘Anydanger AFC’ started well with a 4-1 win against ‘Bayer Neverlusen’, with Scott Woodcock helping himself to a treble. ‘Anydanger’ must fancy their chances of promotion this season. Matching the 4-1 score line were ‘Squish Mittens’, who beat ‘San Marino B’ with the ever reliable Taylor Lawson hitting two of the four goals. Lee Buttebee and Adam Pope got the others. The skilful ‘Blush International’ beat ‘Spriggo’s Barmy Army’ 2-0, with goals from Eduardo Santos and David Grandao.

• Thursday League One

The night’s big winners were ‘The Unexpected’, who thrashed ‘Swaffham Raceway’ 10-1. Chris Matthews scored five, in what was a productive evening for both him and the team. Elsewhere ‘Feed The Goats’ won 2-0 against ‘Not So Athletic’, with Simeon Lee netting both goals. There was also a healthy 5-2 victory for ‘Unreal Madrid’ against ‘BS Topsoil’, with Warren Nichols netting a brace for Madrid. The game of the night proved to be ‘Bradwell Eagles’ versus ‘A Class From The Past’, which finished 5-5. Both sides will surely be looking to improve on their defending should they have aspirations to win the league! Shane Darnel hit four goals for A Class From The Past, with Joe Walis scoring a brace for the Eagles.
