Peter Grant says veteran striker Dion Dublin can help bring out the best in new signing Chris Brown.

The Canaries boss completed the £325,000 deal to bring the 6ft 3in striker to Carrow Road on a two-and-a-half-year contract yesterday after Brown passed a medical and agreed personal terms.

The 22-year-old is expected to be available for City's home game against Plymouth tomorrow, but then the learning curve begins.

“What better person to help him than Dion Dublin?” said Grant. “He is a raw talent and Dion can help him along, no doubt about that.

“I have spoken to Dion already and it is very important we progress him along that way. He is not just a target man, he is technically good, he has good feet, but he probably works too much and too hard to create things for others.

“He has a mixture to his game but sometimes you need to settle him down to certain areas. Chris is a big lad with great technical ability. It is rare to get the combination and he will offer us something different.

“He has great experience, but also great potential.”

Grant is a long-time admirer of the youngster.

“I asked to be kept notified if anything happened and when I saw what Sunderland were doing in the transfer market I knew there was a chance and that something might happen with him,” said Grant.

“Carl Robinson has played with him at Sunderland and he can't believe we've got him for the price we have.”

Brown completed the final details of his deal yesterday before a quick trip back to Sunderland.

“I am delighted to be coming to such a good club with an ambitious manager,” he said. “It's a great platform for me, a great stage.

“Once I came down and met the staff here and looked around I decided to make the move happen and do my utmost to get Norwich City promoted to the Premier League.”

Brown becomes Grant's second signing, after making Luke Chadwick's loan move from Stoke a permanent one.

Brown - whose father Alan also played for Sunderland - came through the youth ranks at the Stadium of Light, where he has scored 11 goals in 35 starts for the Black. He has score three goals in 16 games for Sunderland this season.

Grant - who earlier in the day had refused to talk about potential signings until the deals had been completed - will now turn his attentions to the goalkeeping situation at Carrow Road, with Celtic's David Marshall top of his shopping list.

“I am hoping something will happen in the next few days but unfortunately it is not down to me, it is down to other clubs,” said Grant.

“It is just a matter of feedback. Today, tomorrow, the next day I don't know. I don't want to get into the last week (of the transfer window) and they pull out for some reason so I have to have some definites.

“I will move on if I don't have definites at the end of this week.”

Grant has seen one target, Stephen Pearson, opt for Derby over City, while Luton's Rowan Vine, who was reportedly also on his list, signed for Birmingham yesterday for £3m.

The work on strengthening City's squad meant Grant missed the trip to Newcastle on Wednesday night to watch the club's youth team in action.

“I was one the phone yesterday morning from 7.35 to 10 at night,” he said. “There is a lot of time consumed with that - but I am not complaining about that if I get the right people in.”
